"Assessment and Rapid feedback for oral presentations"
Studies suggest that oral examinations are essential for students, especially engineering graduates. Yet, academics avoid assessing and performing assessment analytics on oral presentations. They perceive that assessing and providing effective feedback that is unbiased, timely, reliable and consistent is a challenge. To address this challenge, we designed and developed an iPad app for assessing and providing feedback for oral presentations. I will talk about the app; its functionality and how the app was used to assess student led oral presentations in the classroom.
Dr Antonette Mendoza is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computing and Information Systems at the University of Melbourne. Her research expertise involves: how users interact and adopt technology; how systems can be better designed to support that interaction; and once deployed, what we can do to facilitate change behavior and adoption of technologies. She has extensive experience in software engineering, IT project management and qualitative methods of research. She is currently collaborating with researchers on ARC and NHMRC projects in the health care and homelessness environments. She is also involved in local and international collaborations with researchers on cross-cultural e-learning platforms and tools. Her achievements include the University of Melbourne Edward Brown Teaching Excellence Award in 2017 and three faculty and department wide teaching awards.
