Prof. Peeter Müürsepp represented Estonia concerning History of Science
Professor Peeter Müürsepp (Department of Law, Chairperson of the Estonian Association for the History and Philosophy of Science (EAHPS)) represented Estonia at a round table discussion concerning History of Science at the University of Latvia on June 21. The event was chaired by Professor Marc Depaepe from KU Leuven. It was emphasized that research in History of Science needs substantial development in all Baltic states. Currently, there is not a single academic unit that focuses on the History of Science, not to speak of any degree programme. In addition, methodological foundations of the field have to be analyzed in detail. The Scopus journal Acta Baltica Historiae et Philosophiae Scientiarum edited by Peeter Müürsepp was given credit. The journal is jointly published by the School of Business and Governance of TTU and the EAHPS.

About the book: This book was born out of a 3day workshop on academic publishing strategies at the Regional Studies Center in Yerevan for which the Academic Swiss Caucasus Network is to credit for funding. The concept has been developed into a series of smaller seminars delivered in a variety of universities (from Brussels to Tezpur, from Vinnitsa to Vilnius and Kiev). In a way or another, the SCOPUS word was always central to the seminar. However, in no way this book is about how to publish in SCOPUS. The author sees it rather as an attempt to look for a balance between SCOPUS and other things. Most of the examples are from the social sciences. This is where the author was bred academically and where he feels most competent so the examples are from there. But the author has delivered the seminar to colleagues from neurosciences, history, medicine, public health and such a variety of other disciplines. Therefore he feels confident to state that disciplines do not matter. This book is about having a critical look at what we are doing the way we are doing and to identify possible directions for an academic career.
